Independent Research and Development Laboratory
Operating a research laboratory is critical to maintaining MRC’s competitive advantage. It is not simply about secrecy and speed in the concept to market process; although these two aspects are important. It is about creating a streamline environment for innovation of superior technology.
Our laboratory was designed to ensure that our team of engineers are in close proximity to each other to foster collaboration and access between experts. When you add the necessary resources such as computer modeling software and CNC Machining Centers capable of operating 24/7, you create a streamline environment designed for commercial innovation.

To create a constancy of purpose amongst a team of engineers takes time. Our core team of engineers have collaborated since 1994- 17 years of experience and team work that is unparalleled. The Innovation Center prides itself on its ability to recruit and retain quality team members.
Added to this collective experience is the center’s culture which is characterized by an unwavering commitment to excel at what we do; a culture that strives to create value, not only for our shareholders, but for our business partners and society. Such a commitment has lead to relentless experimentation; and whilst it does take time, lessons are learned. After all, as the Estonian proverb says: the work will teach you how to do it; and this has continued to be the case at MRC’s innovation center.

Current projects
Eco-Engine performance project
In 2009, the innovation center set a World Record in engine performance with its Eco-engine design. Our engineers are not the type of researchers that rest on laurels. They are continuing to develop new prototypes with the extraordinary target of achieving torque in excess of 700 nm per liter of displacement. | marine diesel engine project
The innovation center is currently developing marine diesel engines for commercial production in 2011/2012. The design, based on the eco-engine configuration, has the potential to revolutionize the marine industry by establishing a new benchmark in inboard and outboard engine performance. This project has exemplified the value in fostering a streamline environment across all divisions of our company. | Heavy Duty Diesel project
MRCʼs innovation center will design and build a special purpose diesel engine to field test in a heavy duty Ford Louisville as part of the companyʼs strategy to deliver dramatic fuel economy to the heaviest class of truck (based on U.S. Department of Transport classifications) to America in 2012. |
Can the innovation center assist with new inventions?
Yes, our innovation center has the engineering capability to assist inventors in the design and prototyping of their inventions. As part of our company’s commitment to strategic collaboration, we will consider unsolicited proposals.
It is important to note that unsolicited proposals must be of a commercial and not academic nature for our company to agree to commit resources to the task of bringing a concept to market.
